It’s Official!

The Foodlands Cooperative of BC has been approved by the BC government. Our founding members — FarmFolk CityFolk Society, Vancity Community Foundation, Fraser Common Farm Cooperative and the BC Farmer’s Market Association — will be joined by other advisory members to form the first board of directors of the new land trust cooperative.

Ceres Circle Farm, 36.8-acre sheep farm in Kelowna, donated by Sue Haley, will be the first land the new coop will take into trust. It will be modeled after the relationship between FarmFolk CityFolk and with Lohbrunner Community Farm Cooperative: the cooperative trust will hold the land and a local community group, in Kelowna, will be formed to manage it.

Foodlands Cooperative is actively looking for an experienced sheep farmer to be the anchor farm business on Ceres and other farmers to share to land. There is room for other animals, a small orchard, a market garden, and a wonderful natural area full of wild food and medicine. The farm is complete with a provincially licensed abattoir and a three bedroom house.
