Wrapping it Up.

The growing season is almost all wrapped up at Lohbrunner Community Farm this year, as our rich flood plain soils grow great veggies, but do not facilitate year round growing due to flooding and saturated ground. And so the Homesteaders have all of their crops harvested and stored away for their winter eating, and Sweet Acres Farm and Vitality Farm attended their last farmers market of the season on October 28th, and are now working on getting the very last of their crops out of the ground for the year, selling off what is left to chef’s and grocery stores, while putting away some for themselves also.

Late October also saw Lohbrunner welcoming community members onto the farm for U-pick Pumpkin Patch tours, which were a great success. Attendees included the local Montessori School, as well as various other groups and individuals, and included a tour through the working farm fields, with the chance to harvest some carrots, and a seed saving station where children were able to harvest sunflower seeds for their own gardens next year – here’s hoping we have gotten a few more kids and families hooked on farm fresh produce and excited to have a working farm in their neighbourhood!
